Synopsis:

The subject is aimed at enhancing the communication and presentation skills and knowledge that are important for a graduate´s successful start in employment. An important part of the subject is training in effectively dealing with people. Students will improve in preparing and delivering professional speeches in front of a small group, in writing business letters and emails. They will learn to express criticism and praise and identify their preferred styles of conflict resolution and interpersonal interaction. As potentional non-medical staff in hospitals, they will become more familiar with the specifics of communicating with patients.

1. 100 points are divided as follows:

a. Max 30 points for a completed and submitted project and max 30 points for a successful oral presentation.

b. Active participation in exercises (max. 40 points)

c. Max. 2 absences are allowed

2. The minimum points for classified credits are 50

Syllabus of lectures:

Meaning of communication to individuals. Introduction to practical psychology, personality, behavior, behavioral development in the life of an individual, importance of paradigm shift and role of prejudices.

Verbal and non-verbal communication. Examples of non-verbal communication.

Dialogue management, active listening, empathy, asking questions

Communication problems, effective communication.

Feedback, praise and criticism. How to proceed and how to receive them. Sandwich method.

Collaboration or power struggle? Communication styles. Communication manipulation techniques.

20th Century Communication theories with impact to today. Communication instructions. Assertive procedures.

Consistency of experience and communication. Ethics of communication.

Basics of presentation. Content and form. Role of preparation, dynamics and presentation structure. Rhetorical styles and mistakes.

Conflict situations and solutions. Managing objections and providing argumentation.

Writing skills. Writing business letters. How and what to read? The importance of reading.

Specifics of electronic communication. Email, chat, social networks.
