Synopsis:

Students will be acquainted with the problems of urban design, town and regional planning in the Czech Republic. The problems will be studied in details through the individual concepts of public infrastructure (such as transport and technical infrastructure, civic amenities and public spaces), and with specific requirements for the area and spatial arrangement of the utility services in the territory.

The subject consists of thematic lectures and a seminar project.

Requirements:

At least three presentations during the semester.

Elaboration of a poster for the assigned semester project.

Syllabus of lectures:

1) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – introduction, legislation, types of urban planning tools.

2) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – spatial development policy.

3) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – planníng analytical materials.

4) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – urban study.

5) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – spatial development principles.

6) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – local plan.

7) Public infrastructure in spatial planning activity – regulatory plan.

8) Urban planning decision-making, planning contracts.

9) Geographical information systems in urban planning.

10) Conditions of area and spatial arrangement of utility services in the territory.

11) Combined routes of utility services in the territory.

12) Standards of accessibility of civic amenities.

13) Public spaces.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Presentation of public infrastructure at the place of residence

2. Presentation of basic information about the selected public space in Prague

3. Excursion - Prague

4. Creation of a proposal for the modification of the selected public space, using GIS software

5. Presentation of a comprehensive proposal for changes

6. Processing of the project poster

Study Objective:

Understanding the basic principles of urban design and spatial planning in the Czech Republic.
