Synopsis:

GIS 1 is a set of lectures describing basic terms, principles, models and tools how to use geographic information systems for various applications and purposes. Vector and raster data applications are explained.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction, definition and application areas and GIS types

2. History of GIS

3. Space in GIS, geographic information, object x raster GIS

4. Topological characteristics of geometric types, topology control

5. Attribute data in GIS. Temporal dimension.

6. Vector and raster representation of spatial objects - models

7. Geometric types in raster representations

8. 3dimensional data, digital models of terrain, relief and surface

9. Manipulation and analytic functions - geometry of vector data

10. Manipulation and analytic functions of attribute data, queries

11. General analysis of spatial data - neighbourhood data, topographic functions

12. Structures of raster data

13. Data input into databases, restructuring, data generalisation

1. Introduction to ArcGIS

2. Data formats, geodabases

3. Vector data, attribute queries

4. Vector data, spatial queries

5. Vector data spatial functions

6. Raster data, mosaic datasets, georeferencing

7. External data (XLS, CSV), georeferencing of vector data

8. Creation of database, vectorisation

9. Web map service (WMS, WFS, WCS). Connecting in GIS.

10. ArcGIS Online

11. Public Administration data (WMS, INSPIRE, VFK), open data (OSM, VFR)

12. Test credit test

13. Credit test

Study Objective:

Students will be able to understand philosophy and possibilities of conversion of the real world data to the digital environment.
