Synopsis:

The subject represents a synthesis of topics related to applied ecology and at the same time dendrology, focused on practical use in the creation and protection of the landscape as well as within urbanized units.

Requirements:

The condition for passing the course is attendance at exercises, including planned excursions. As part of the thematic exercises, students will work on simple practical tasks in the landscape and also evaluate the vegetation in the given locality.

Syllabus of lectures:

Air quality, effects, measurement, consequences

The relationship between living ecosystems and construction.

Landscape stability, its development - succession

Anthropogenic influences on the landscape (agriculture, hunting, fish farming)

Transport and migration permeability of the landscape

Ecological consequences of climate change

Buildings and impact on the landscape

Energy, use of resources on Earth

Extraction of mineral resources

Landscape reclamation after anthropogenic interventions

Protection of the nature

Water protection

DENDROLOGY

Introduction – dendrology – application of dendrology in landscape planning

Systematics of plant nomenclature, areal biogeography

Plant and forest communities, vegetation stages

Inventory of trees, evaluation of trees near settlements and in the countryside

The use and choice of trees in the landscape and in the countryside

Establishment of plantations and subsequent methods of maintenance, treatment of trees

Practical demonstrations in the field

Study Objective:

The aim is to acquaint listeners with the impact of anthropogenic activity on the landscape. Furthermore, the listeners are introduced to wood species and their use for technical practice in our country.
