Synopsis:

The subject provides a brief overview of physiology, pathology and pathophysiology of organ systems. Attention is focused on failure of the organ functions leading to formation of specific pathophysiological syndromes.

Requirements:

The tuition is performed in the form of self-study with regular consultations. In addition to the examination, students are required to submit a written study on assigned topic.

Syllabus of lectures:

1) General causes of desease, etiology and pathogenesis, syndrome/symptom. External pathogenic factors - physical, chemical and biological.

2) Cell/tissue/organ, regulation of proliferation, differentiation and cell death (necrosis vs. apoptosis), tissue injury, inflammation, local and systemic inflammatory response, cytokines and chemokines, the general signs of disease (heat, pain), regeneration vs. reparation, wound healing and its disfunction.

3) Basic genetics, genetic variability, diseases caused by chromosomal aberrations, monogenic vs complex disorders.

4) Cell cycle control, tumor cell transformation, carcinogens, metastasis, interaction between tumor and organism, sporadic vs familial forms. 5) Pathophysiology of the respiratory system. 6) Pathophysiology of blood 7) Pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. 8) Pathophysiology of the urinary system. 9) Homeostasis and its disfunction. 10) Pathophysiology of the digestive system. 11) Pathophysiology of the endocrine system. 12) Pathophysiology of metabolism. 13) Pathophysiology of allergic and autoimmune disorders. 14) Nutrition disorders.
