Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Introduction to the content of exercises, visit to the laboratory and selection of topics for semestral work.

2. Measurement of dielectric properties of fluids and of samples of biological tissues.

3. Segmentation of MRI images.

4. Treatment planning in microwave hyperthermia.

5. Differential microwave imaging in real time: implementation of the Born algorithm.

6. Testing of applicators and systems for MW hyperthermia.

7. Measurement of vital signals using microwave radar.

Study Objective:

In the course Microwave Diagnostics and Therapy students will learn about the latest trends in the design and testing of HW and SW for microwave diagnostics and therapy, such as applicators, antenna elements, hyperthermic and imaging systems, treatment planning and risk assessment of medical devices.

The aim is to provide students with a general overview of current opportunities in this field, where numerical simulations of electromagnetic and temperature fields, material properties of biological tissues, anatomically accurate models and phantoms of biological tissues and advanced algorithms for treatment and microwave imaging planning are combined.
