Department of Biomedical Technology
Synopsis:

During the course attention will be given to the two large groups, i.e. patient simulators and instrumentation testers. The use of these two groups in clinical practice will also be part of the course. As an essential part of the teaching will be included laboratory exercises in the workplace simulated workplace intensive care unit, where all the samples are carried out with two groups of devices. The course has a direct relationship to future career opportunities. Great emphasis is placed on managing interdisciplinary teaching (especially linking physiology and engineering principles). Given the organization of teaching as a 2-hour blocks 1 for 14 days is shown below, only 7 lectures (there will be performed standard exercises or intensive/block instruction will be implemented due to the time of experiments and the limited possibilities in terms of number of students).

Requirements:

Due to the block exercises teaching there is necessary and mandatory attendance for all exercises. The course ends with a graded assessment, i.e. via two written test (10 questions with three possible answers, only one is always correct - multiple choices) evaluated with respect to the grading scale ECTS. Max. number of points is 10, i.e. for one right answer 1 point and for wrong answer 0 point. The minimum number of points is 5 pts for one test.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Patient simulators (definition, types, examples, parameters, illustration)

2. Medical Devices Testers (definitions, examples, parameters, illustration)

3. Basic principles of implementation, the context to the other disciplines

4. Description of selected models of subsystems (SW)

5. Description of selected models of subsystems (HW)

6. Other types of phantoms and simulators

7. Possibilities of use in clinical practice (examples)

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Patient simulators CAE Healthcare - ECS and HPS - basic description of the options, sample part, the control unit

2. Instrumentation Tester - general overview - the possibility of cooperation with patient simulators

3. A detailed description of patient simulators - control SW, HW sample implementation

4. Connecting medical devices defined within the standard for ICU to patient simulators within a simulated workplace ICU

5. The process of creating scenarios for managing patient simulator - Part 1 - Basic procedures - examples

6. The process of creating scenarios for managing patient simulator - Part 2 - separate experiments students

7. Classified Assessment - test

Study Objective:

The main objective of the course is to give students a basic knowledge of the existence and principles so called patient and medical device simulators and testers that are routinely used in clinical practice, and also about the possibilities in connection with the operation of medical devices.
