Synopsis:

The course introduces the analysis of the theory of consumer, the theory of firm, and the market interactions of consumers and firms.

Requirements:

The exam is based on a single test and a successful student receives at least 50 % of the total score.

Syllabus of lectures:

Topic No. 1 Theory of consumer choice

Topic No. 2 Derivation and analysis of individual demand function

Topic No. 3 Supply - demand analysis, comparative statics

Topic No. 4 Theory of firm, choice of technology in the short run

Topic No. 5 Theory of firm, choice of technology in the long run

Topic No. 6 Theory of firm, cost analysis in the short and long run

Topic No. 7 Theory of firm, revenues, profit analysis, alternative theories of firm

Topic No. 8 Theory of competing companies, (im)perfect competitive markets

Topic No. 9 Oligopoly, monopoly

Topic No. 10 Input market analysis, firm´s demand for inputs

Topic No. 11 Labor supply

Topic No. 12 Uncertainty, expected utility theory and the market for risk

Topic No. 13 Financial capital, market and government failures, asymmetric information

The goal of the course is to acquaint the students with the more advanced tools of microeconomic analysis, included its modern extension on the behavioural and psycho-economics
