Synopsis:

An overview of the history of European art from antiquity to modern times

Requirements:

passing the history of architecture course

compulsory participation on excursions

written work on an approved topic

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Imperium, imperial representation and its artwork.

2. Decoration and development of the Christian temple. Basics of iconography.

3. „Thou shalt not make graven images of thyself“: architecture and iconoclasm.

4. In the shadow of Charles IV. The Golden Age of Bohemia and its reflection in Czech culture.

5. Late Gothic in Central Europe: stylistic variations.

6. Artistic opinion in the construction and in the creative work of the great Renaissance Artists.

7. Baroque conversion, emotional strategy in Baroque art.

8. Jan Blažej Santini: symbolism of floor plan solutions.

9. The industrial revolution and the sentimental landscape: the quarrel between the Enlightenment and the Romantic.

10. Gesamtkunstwerk - all-art work.

11. Avant-garde artist: architect, sculptor, painter, musician.

12. Inspiration from nature - art and architecture around 1900.

13. The divorce of art and architecture in the twentieth century.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Excursion to various state collections and monuments.

Compulsory participation on three excursions
