Synopsis:

The subject deals with architecture from classicism to postmodernism. Each development stage is presented in a wider social context with an emphasis on understanding the theoretical basis of the given concepts. Emphasis is placed on understanding the main formal features of individual styles and directions, typological and structural development, the application of which is expected in future architectural practice. The subject also touches on the development of urbanism.

Requirements:

exam from DA1 and DA2, attendance is considered at the final exam ( min 8 out of 13 lectures

1 Introduction brief overview and introduction of basic concepts, chronology

2 19th century introduction, theory, basic division. Classicism

3 Typologies and historicisms in 19th century architecture

4 Industrial Revolution. The advent of modern constructions (from cast iron to reinforced concrete).

5 The birth of modern urbanism from a social utopia to major reconstructions and the emergence of a metropolis

6 The Arts and Crafts movement and architecture

7 Art nouveau, Modern Style, Jugendstil and Art Nouveau

8 Avant-garde movement and architecture in the first half of the 20th century Futurism, Cubism and Expressionism

9 Avant-gardes and architecture Russian constructivism,

neoplasticism, Bauhaus and events in our country.

10 Le Corbusier purism and further development. From functionalism to international style

11 Introduction to post-war development reaction to international style. New brutalism, mechanism, the advent of high-tech, the utopia of the 60s

12 Introduction to postmodernism. Exam information
