Synopsis:

The aim of the course is an introduction into principles of design of concrete ans masonry bridges. The course includes also corresponding problems from terminology, spatial arrangement and loads on bridges up to design of various types of concrete bridge structures and technology of their construction.

Requirements:

Before taking the examination following this course, it is required to have passed course 133BEK1.

Syllabus of lectures:

1) Terminology and principles of bridge design.

2) Spatial arrangement and equipment of road bridges.

3) Spatial arrangement and equipment of railway bridges. Bridges over water obstacles.

4) Substructure. Bridge bearings and expansion joints.

5) Loads, principles of design of concrete bridges according to the theory of limit states. Load-bearing capacity.

6) Prestressing - effects at structures, principles of design, realization.

7) Slab bridges.

8) Beam and frame bridges.

9) Arch and vault bridges.

10) Cable-stayed and suspension structures, stress-ribbon structures.

11) Cast-in-situ structures - structures built on scaffolding and built by rotation.

12) Incremental launching. Segmental structures - cast-in-situ and precast.

13) Structures made of precast girders. Heavy prefabrication.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1) Drawings - longitudinal section, cross sections at span and at supports.

2) Properties of cross sections. materials.

3) Permanent loads, variable loads.

4) Influence lines. Calculation of internal forces.

5) Combinations of actions.

6) Preliminary design of prestressing reinforcement.

7) Tendon lay-out.

8) Detailed calculations of the effects of prestressing.

9) Verification of SLS.

10) Verification of ULS.

11) Drawings of the bridge - longitudinal sections, cross sections, lay-out.

12) Drawing of prestressing reinforcement.

13) Consultations.

Study Objective:

The aim is for the students to understand principles of design of concrete bridges and to be able to carry out designs of such structures.
