Mathematical modeling for hydraulic structures design

Synopsis:

Basics of Computational Fluid Dynamics using Finite Volume Method, introduction to Ansys CFX, solving simple engineering tasks, evaluation of results

Requirements:

- Basics of PC control with WIN OS

- Basic knowledge of hydraulics

Syllabus of lectures:

1. introduction, method of task representation

2. networks, element types, MKO principle, influence of network size and quality on results

3. solver setup, convergence of calculation, error

4. physical properties of the domain, boundary and initial conditions

5. - 6. two-phase flow, use of expression language

7. turbulence, buoyancy models, model errors

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. calculation of single-phase flow - pipe connection

2. calculation of two-phase flow (free water surface) - overflow calculation

3. complex problem - student's choice, independent processing

Study Objective:

The aim is an initial introduction to the principles of mathematical modelling, procedures and evaluation.

(primatily Pre User´s Guide, Solver Modeling Guide, Tutorials)

Ferziger, Perić - Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics (Chapters 1,2,4)
