Synopsis:

Design studio focused on the creation - development and revitalization - of public spaces or systems of public spaces

Requirements:

Studio and project content

The Atelier continues to have a teaching and consulting part, both of which take place weekly.

The educational part is to help conceptual urban preparation (joint accompanying comments, presentation of research, discussions, excursions, current exhibitions, etc.), summaries for specialized preparation, e.g. for economics or for communication with sponsors, etc..

Presentation of analyses, VP research, solution options and discussions are, in addition to consulting activities, a mandatory part of the studio.

The design will be based on the urban concept of the specific site. This can be taken (e.g. from the Master Plan or the Urban Development Plan) and refined.

Public space (or system of public spaces):

- If defined by new buildings, then with the solution of schematic layouts of type. The layout of the layout of the buildings should be described in terms of floors, ground floors and basements with projections onto the facades of the buildings.

- If defined by existing buildings, then with a solution of the available ground floor layouts and the adopted or corrected facades

The actual layout of the open space will reflect current trends in open space design,

(e.g. traffic reduction or calming, barrier-free), will work with catalogue and atypical elements of the parterre, including furniture and greenery (library of elements) and their targeted composition, and will have a proper accompaniment of the spatial concept in day and night mode.

It will also necessarily demonstrate the transport and infrastructure requirements within the more detailed building design of the selected part of the space. On the selected detail structure, the student will demonstrate the ability to design the regulatory conditions (in text and graphic form), and in the case of the design of the public space, the ability to make a framework economic evaluation of the investment according to the conditions set by the specialist, and similarly in the case of the infrastructural and dendrological accompaniment.

Scope of the project :

A. The residence or the archive as a framework for the design of the public space:

( minimum scope in the portfolio, reduced to sheets ) - study

1. Situation of the area with the selected system of public buildings or the expression of new buildings or reconstructions of buildings on the edges of the public buildings ( 1:1000, 1:2000)

2. Schematic diagrams of the variants of conceptual consideration of the role, location and links of the VPs

3.Layout diagrams type. floors, ground floors and basements of new and reconstructed buildings on the edges of public spaces of the selected ensemble - 1:500, 1:750

4.Spatial documentation of the ensemble ( 1 pc) without facades

5.Author's report :

Other optional : analytical analyses for new tasks, unspecified

schematics of condition and design, broader site or ensemble relationships

B. Public space or system of public spaces including parterre ( minimum extent ) -

studies

6.Design of the parterre of one or more VP - situation 1.500 with links to the surrounding layout of buildings and obligatory variant and conceptual diagrams,

7. Compositional layout of the parterre including surfaces, furniture and greenery - 1:500 situation

8.Library of elements of pavements, street furniture and greenery (arch. and technical solutions) including the design of non-catalogue elements - specific offer of elements

9.Demonstration of proportions and height changes of VP by selected sections ( min. 1 pc)

10.Spatial documentation of the VP system with the solution of facades or proposed accentuation of facades min. 2 pcs, including 1x from the pedestrian horizon

11.Author's report.

Other optional : other unspecified diagrams of the condition and design, working

model, other unspecified documentation of elements, other visualizations

and type. details

C. Specific engineering accompaniment of the VP - design:

( minimum scope in portfolio, reduced on sails)

12. Selected area - technical coordination situation of the parterre - situation of the furniture,

surfaces, greenery drainage and technical infrastructure 1:500 (250)

13.Technical report:1. economic part according to the requirements of the specialist - special

2. infrastructure part according to the specialist's requirements

3. description of the technical design of the mobility and greenery

Other optional : Structural section in case of VP on structures.

Note: changes of scale, exceptionally scale only after agreement with the studio manager or

work and in relation to the extent of the area to be covered. Activities beyond the minimum scope can be considered as a bonus in the evaluation of the work.

Specialists

For technical infrastructure ( Ing. V. Jetel), for economics ( Ing.Soukeník), for dendrology ( Ing. Hendrych) or transport ( Ing.Pivoňka) will be prepared by agreement during the 2nd half of the course.

Syllabus of lectures:

Atelier is a continuation of the discussion workshop from the previous AMG1.

The aim of the project is to successfully design one or a set of public spaces within a selected urban ensemble of a part of a city, a whole or part of a smaller municipality, undeveloped areas or a landscape unit. In addition to the urban design component, the student will prepare a specific engineering and economic accompaniment.

Topics need not be based on the previous studio, ATUR is an opportunity for smaller and thematically related assignments with an emphasis on public realm design. The selection of themes mainly from the current contractual agreements (requirements of municipalities and cities) in the Czech Republic, exceptionally other themes are admissible (domestic and foreign competitions, workshops, free theme of students) always with the necessary fulfillment of the framework and framework conditions of the project assignment.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Example of a studio program:

Week 1: introduction, selection, specification of the assignment, background materials,

Week 2: physical and data surveys, P+R consultation,

Week 3 : ensemble and linkage options - consultation, walk or excursion

Week 4: presentation I - research on the topic, conceptual options, discussion

Week 5: walk or excursion, consultation

Week 6: specialist block, consultation of partner options, consultation

Week 7 : walk, exhibition, consultation

Week 8: consultation on the final design and furnishings

Week 9: presentation of the 2nd - draft VP, discussion

Week 10: consultation of furnishings and greenery

Week 11: consultation of the final design and

Week 12: consultation of tech. 12. and economic annexes
