Syllabus of lectures:

Climatic factors, global atmospheric circulation.

Air masses and atmospheric fronts, climate zones.

Composition and vertical zonation of the atmosphere.

Water in the atmosphere, atmospheric stability.

Air flow on synoptic scale, pressure formations and frontal systems.

Clouds, formation of atmospheric precipitation.

Measurement of meteorological quantities.

Hydrological cycle and hydrological balance.

Analysis of precipitation data, extreme precipitation.

Interception, infiltration and evaporation.

Catchment runoff generation, rainfall-runoff relationships, flood wave transformation in reservoirs and channels.

Frequency analysis of extreme events.

Hydrological design.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Analysis of rainfall data, catchment runoff, frequency analysis of daily flow rates.

Flood frequency analysis.

Water in the atmosphere.

Hydrological balance.

Evaluation of catchment rainfall totals, linear regression, frequency analysis of precipitation extremes.

Design rainfall, rainfall-runoff relationships, rational method.

Study Objective:

To build basic understanding of hydrological processes in a broader climatological and meteorological context. After passing the course, students should be able to solve basic hydrological problems.
