Introduction to basic measurement methods of non-electrical quantities, procedures for conducting engineering experiments, evaluation and processing of data. Individual laboratory exercises and practical demonstrations of experimental techniques and procedures.


Physics I Alfa

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Motivational introduction, overview of physical quantities, organization of the experiment, safety, dimensional analysis

2.Accuracy of measurement, uncertainty, the comparison of experimental results and calculations, data acquisition, software for experiment control and data processing

3.Analog and digital signal processing, signal filtering

4.Basic instrumentation

5.Sensors for measurement of non-electrical quantities, measurement of forces and deformations

6.Straingauge measurement

7.Measurement of noise and vibration, modal analysis

Syllabus of tutorials:

1.Sensors for temperature measurement, examples in Labview, hw and sw demos

2.Measurement bridge circuit

3.Amplifiers, operational amplifiers, instrumentation amplifiers, digital signal processing

4.Filtering, antialiasing, AD/DA conversion

5.Strain and piezoelectric sensors, practical application of uniaxial straingauge

6.Measuring vibration and acceleration, Fourier transformation, DFT, FFT, spectrum, order analysis of an asynchronous motor

7.Noise and vibration measurements

8.Non-destructive analysis of structures

9.Modal analysis

10.Analysis of laboratory works

Study Objective:

Learning basics of experimental physical methods for use in engineering practice, development and testing of structures. Acquiring knowledge about processing of measured signals with an emphasis on modern digital and computer methods.
