Synopsis:

In introductory lectures students will get information on the development of Prague and on the Prague Historic Reserve, which is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. The case studies will present the most important historical and contemporary architectural monuments. Subsequent guided tours through Prague will focused on selected prominent monuments and sites. The topic of the seminar work is to write a report on visited monuments.

The topic of the seminar work is to write an report on visited monuments and sites (9 pages by your own words).

Syllabus of lectures:

In introductory lectures students will get information on the development of Prague and on the Prague Historic Reserve, which is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. The guided tours through Prague will focused on selected prominent monuments and sites mostly from the 19th and 20th century.

Study Objective:

The tours will include a description of the history of buildings and sites in an urbanistic context, the description of the layout, function, structure and the architectural style of the selected buildings and questions regarding their protection.

The topic of the seminar work is to write an report on visited monuments and sites. Lectures and seminars are focused on how has Prague developed over time and on its most important historical and contemporary architectural and industrial monuments and sites. The course will be also concerned with understanding what conservation is, terminology connected with conservation and how conservation policies are being implemented.
