Synopsis:

The subject acquaints students with principles of magnetic resonance and procedures employed in magnetic resonance imaging and furthermore with examination strategy of particular organs and body parts. Contrast media employed in MR examinations are discussed.

Requirements:

100% participation in practical exercises,

demonstration of the knowledge mastered by a written test,

passing the examination by the method set.

Syllabus of lectures:

Lectures:

Structure of atoms and magnetism, nuclear magnetic resonance, MR imaging.

Basic parts of the MR system, radiofrequency pulse, gradients, processing of signal, coils.

Examination sequence for MR (sequence of the spin echo, T1 and T2 weighted images, gradient sequences, formation of MR image, k-space), choice of examination parameters.

Special examination assisting components (diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy, tractography, functional MR).

Contrast media, contraindication of the examination, preparation of the patient, general indications for MR examination, artefacts.

MR imaging of structures of the head, main clinical indications.

MR of the spine and spinal channel.

MR in the neck region.

MR of the thorax.

MR of the abdomen and pelvis.

MR diagnostics of locomotor apparatus pathological conditions.

MR angiography.

MR of the heart.

Conclusion, test for credit.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Practical exercises:

Indications, normal findings and most frequent pathological conditions in MR examination of the CNS.

Functional MR, MR spectroscopy, preoperative MR, diffusion, perfusion.

Study Objective:

Targets:

to master basic knowledge within the subject to the extent necessary for the performance of the profession in the branch Radiology Assistant.
