Synopsis:

Subject of neurotechnology and the role of the engineer. Introduction to biosignal measurement. Introduction to biosignal processing in real time. Human sensors, electronic sensors. The muscles, the heart and its function. Nervescells, human brain. EEG, evoked potentials. Audiovisual stimulation, binaural rythms. EEG biofeedback - Neurofeedback. Virtual reality. Introduction to neuropsychology.

Requirements:

Solved and documented individual exercise.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction. Examination requirements. Nerve cell, action potential.

2. Biological signal measuring.

3. Biological signal processing.

4. Biological signal processing in real-time.

5. Five human senses. Electronic sensors.

6. Muscles, heart.

7. Nervous system, human brain.

8. EEG, evoked potential.

9. Audio visual stimulation, binaural rhythms.

10. Biofeedback.

11. Neurofeedback I.

12. Neurofeedback II.

13. Human computer interface, virtual reality.

14. Neuropsychology

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Introduction. Examination requirements. General safety rules. Excursion to the laboratory. Project Submission.

2. Practical demonstration of biosignal measuring devices and software.

3. Practical demonstration of signal processing devices and software.

4. Practical demonstration of the chain measuring system for real-time signal processing.

5. Practical demonstration of the signal measuring (ECG, EMG, EOG, breath, GSR, temperature etc.)

6. Practical demonstration of the EEG measuring.

7. Practical demonstration of the audio visual stimulation.

8. Practical demonstration of the active biofeedback I.

9. Practical demonstration of the active biofeedback II.

10. Practical demonstration of the active biofeedback III.

11. Practical demonstration of the passive biofeedback.

12. Excursion to the biofeedback laboratory.

13. Practical demonstration of neurophysiologic tests evaluation.

14. Project presentation. Award an ungraded assessment.

Study Objective:

Familiarized with definition nerve cell, action potential, bases of biosignal measuring a processing. Acquiring knowledge about human senses, function of human organs, diagnostic methods, biofeedback therapy and virtual reality.
