Variational principles of solid mechanics used in Finite element method. Types of finite elements and their aplicability in different problems. Shape functions for selected elements. Generation of the finite element model. Direct generation, meshing of solid models. Boundary conditions and loads. Methods for solving large systems of algebraic equations. Preprocessor, solution pass, postprocessor. Numerical integration. Selected problems from solid mechanics. Compression-tension element, Kirchhoff´s and Mindlin theory of plates, plane element, shell element, membrane and solid elements.
