Synopsis:

Historical outline of applications, review of interaction of radiation with a matter, ionizing radiation sources for applications, detectors and devices for applications, evaluation of radionuclide measurements, , X-ray fluorescence methods and other instrumental analytical methods using IR, tracer methods, radionuclides in age determination

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1.Radionuclide sources of alpha, beta, gama and X-radiation for applications

2.X-ray tubes and particle accelerators as radiation sources for applications

3.Neutron sources - radionuclide sources (alpha, n), (gamma, n), Cf 252; neutron generators; nuclear reactor

4. Interaction of ionizing radiation with matter

5.Detectors and signal processing for radiation applications

6.Calibration curve and errors of measurement

7.Use of gamma and X-ray beam transmission ,Use of photon backscattering

8.Use of transmission and backscattering of beta radiation - thicknesses, coatings, analysis of binary mixtures

9.Application of neutron transmission and scattering - neutron radiography, moisture measurements

10.Activation analysis - principles, sources of error, signal processing, possibilities of use

11. Wavelength and energy -dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis - principles, sources of error, possibilities of use

Synchrotron radiation induced X-ray emission

12.Microbeam XRFA, Particle induced X-ray emission, Electron induced X-ray emission

14.Radioactive indicators - principle, requirements, possibilities of use, Determination of volumetric flow rate

15.Radionuclide methods of dating - radiocarbon, thermoluminescence, electron spin resonance, optically stimulated luminescence, potassium-argon method, methods based on decay series, etc.

16. Safety regulations and radiation protection.
