Synopsis:

The course represents the first stage of the five-semester programme, its final aim being reading and understanding professional texts written in Russian. Thus it begins with mastering the Russian alphabet (for both reading and writing skills) and fundamentals of grammar necessary for everyday communication (listening and speaking). Students will be able to read a short text with marked stress, understand its contents and summarize it.

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Study Objective:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of phonetics, morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, namely: stressed, unstressed syllables, block letter and small letter Cyrillic, intonation of declarations and questions, shifting stress, I. and II. conjugation of main verbs in the present tense, noun and pronoun singular, job and nationality

Skills:

their application in everyday communication, namely: to communicate simply in chosen everyday situations, read a short text with marked stress, generally understand the contents and repeat it.
