Synopsis:

During the course attention will be given to the two large groups, i.e. patient simulators and instrumentation testers. The use of these two groups in clinical practice will also be part of the course. As an essential part of the teaching will be included laboratory exercises in the workplace simulated workplace intensive care unit, where all the samples are carried out with two groups of devices. The course has a direct relationship to future career opportunities. Great emphasis is placed on managing interdisciplinary teaching (especially linking physiology and engineering principles). Given the organization of teaching as a 2-hour blocks 1 for 14 days is shown below, only 7 lectures (there will be performed standard exercises or intensive/block instruction will be implemented due to the time of experiments and the limited possibilities in terms of number of students).

Requirements:

Due to the block exercises teaching there is necessary and mandatory attendance for all exercises. The course ends with a graded assessment, i.e. via two written test (10 questions with three possible answers, only one is always correct - multiple choices) evaluated with respect to the grading scale ECTS. Max. number of points is 10, i.e. for one right answer 1 point and for wrong answer 0 point. The minimum number of points is 5 pts for one test.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Patient and device simulators and testers (definitions, examples, parameters, illustrations of application in clinical use)

2. Fundamental principles of implementation, other branches relationships (electromechanical and other analogies) - inovated lecture within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

3. Detailed description and implementation of the human subsystem selected model (CVS model - hemodynamics, SW) - inovated lecture within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

4. Design and development of the selected blocks of the patients and device simulators (circuits) - inovated lecture within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

5. Examples of the simulators and testers circuits (ECG, EMG, EEG, SpO2, NIBP, .) - inovated lecture within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

6. Enviroment, scenario design and development and relevant procedures during the patient simulator control (examples), basic terms and anestesiology fundamentals

7. Other kind of simulators and phantoms. Possibilities of application in clinical usage (examples, legislation relationships)

Syllabus of tutorials:

Block 1 (3h)

Simulation introduction, patient simulatots METI (CAE Healthcare) family intro, arrangement of simulated workplace of ICU and laboratory of patients simulation, medical gassess, power supply and backup. Demonstration of the internal systems relationships. Review of the measured parameters - physiology base. Practical demonstration - vliv uživatelem nastavitelných funkcí na stav pacienta. Connection of the simulator with different medical devices - demonstration of the vital sign monitor, defibrillator, lung ventilator, links to the basics of anesthesia and resuscitation, related to pharmacology - inovated exercise within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

Block 2 (3h)

ECG and EEG simulators. Defibrillator testers, electrical safety testers. Lung simulators, connection with artificial lung ventilation. TEST 1. - inovated exercise within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

Block 3 (3h)

Design and development of the selected and typical scenario, design and development of th enew scenarios (heart failures), TEST 2. - inovated exercise within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

Block 4 (3h)

Complex task with patient simulator, possibilities and effect of pharmaks intervention, utillization of METIVision sytem for recording and evaluation (debriefing), application of saved parameters for offline processing - inovated exercise within the IP 2017 project Patient simulation

Study Objective:

The main objective of the course is to give students a basic knowledge of the existence and principles so called patient and medical device simulators and testers that are routinely used in clinical practice, and also about the possibilities in connection with the operation of medical devices.
