Synopsis:

The study subject aim is to expand the students knowledge gained from the previous subject Thermomechanics Alfa. The attention is focussed namely on fluids characteristics, various description methods of fluid dynamics under low and high Re number values, boundary layer characteristics and its stability and complex flow characteristics for incompressible

flow.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

Flows characteristics. Viscosity and surface tension. Rheology. Newtons law of friction.

Non Newtonian fluids.

Statics of fluids. Eulers hydrostatic law. External forces potential. Pressure fields under various conditions.

Kinematic of fluids. Lagrangian method, Eulerian method. Velocity fields and their mapping.

Fundamental equations of fluid dynamics in integral and differential forms. Continuity equation.

Navier-Stokes equations. Eulers equation, Bernoullis equation. Gromek-Lamb equation.

Flows of viscous non compressible fluids. Exact and approximate solutions under low Re numbers. Creeping flows.

Boundary layer and its various cases. Prandtl equations.

Laminar and turbulent flows.

Transition into turbulent flows. Stability. Influence of transition.

Complex flows. Stokes, Lagranges, Thomsons theorem. Helmholtz theorem. Biot-Savarts law.

Single vortex lines. Pairs of vortex lines. Vortex fields.

Singularity method. Thin airfoil theory. Panel method.
