The course deals with the explanation of processes and procedures which form the the theoretical fundamentals of engineering and mechanical engineering technologies. Emphasis is laid on thermodynamics, diffusion, crystal lattice structures and their imperfections, phase transformations and hardening and dehardening processes. Attention is also paid to degradation processes, i.e. failure of materials, fatigue, creep, corrosion, wear and radiation failures.
