Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with a rich typology of historical and modern ecological buildings and related construction technologies. The course should cover a wide range of different building types, including an outline of historic preservation, and outline the latest trends in construction related to sustainability.

Requirements:

Submission of work by the prescribed deadline and to the prescribed extent (see Teams).

Compulsory attendance in class, maximum 2 unexcused absences.

Regular consultation and checking of work during the course.

1. Introduction to eco-building technologies.

2. Examples of historical and modern eco-buildings.

3. Materials and technologies for earthen structures.

4. Materials and technologies for wooden structures.

5. Materials and technologies for straw structures.

6. Other materials and technologies for eco-construction.

7. Materials and technologies for NED and PD.

8. Foundations of buildings made of natural materials.

9. Building physics using natural materials.

10. Materials engineering, creation of new materials.

11. Excursions on eco-construction.

12. Designing eco-buildings.

13. Defects and failures of eco-buildings.

Study Objective:

Gain an overview of developments in the field of eco-construction and sustainable building technologies and materials.

Acquire a basic understanding of the technologies used to increase the sustainability of buildings and settlements.
