The course introduces students to the functions of basic optical instruments and shows their applications.

1. Human eye and vision, eye characteristics, aberrations.
2. Microscope: Abbe type, stereo, confocal, slit lamp
3. Microscope: polarization, fluorescent, interference contrast; phase specimens
4. Collimator, autocollimator. Surveying telescopes, periscope, binoculars. Focusing system.
5. Reflecting telescopes, astronomical telescopes
6. Astronomical telescopes´ mounts. Large telescopes, segmented mirrors.
7. Reflection optics´ aberrations, corrections. Catadioptric systems.
8. Varifocal optical systems (zoom).
9. Camera - anatomy, types.
10. Camera: lens types, autofocus systems.
11. System of colours, colour mixing.
12. Projectors, colour combining systems.
