Supervisor:
Department of Nuclear Chemistry
Synopsis:

This advanced exercise consists of set of practical tasks aiming to show fundamental radiochemical separation methods, their modifications and utilization at work with radionuclides. Students apply knowledge received in lectures „Separation methods in Nuclear Chemistry 1“ and „Nuclear Chemistry“ and are also using skill acquired in previous laboratory exercises. Tasks are including extraction, chromatographic, coprecipitation procedures and principles, in which good work management and proper handling with open radioactive sources and nuclear waste is necessary. Various types of radionuclides, single or in genetic relationship are used.

Requirements:

Exam Parctical exercises in nuclear chemistry (15PJCH)

Exam or enrolment in Separation methods in radiochemistry 1 (15SMJ1)

Syllabus of lectures:
Syllabus of tutorials:

1.Separation of complex anions on ion exchangers.

2.Extraction with oxygen-containing diluents

3.Optimization of pH value in extraction separation of chelates of differently charged ions.

4.Separation of ions with extraction chromatography

5.Separation of ions with partition chromatography (paper or thin layer).

6.Precipitation methods for fast separation of short-living radionuclides.

Study Objective:

Students will get practical knowledge of fundamental principles of the main types of separation methods used in radiochemistry. After the course they will also get competencies to choose proper separation method and abilities to realize them in (radio)chemical and technical way.
