Synopsis:

The main objective of this subject is to introduce the field of traffic simulation to students. It is a field that is gaining more and more attention in consultant companies and their customers in the Czech Republic. It can answer many questions such as how a system reacts to changes in infrastructure, control algorithms and strategies, what is the effect of ITS systems on drivers behavior and many others. It can be used as a supporting tool for many strategic decisions, for example for building new infrastructures and others. This subject offers basic understanding of simulation terminology, but even more importantly, practical experience with an existing simulation software - AIMSUN/GETRAM.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

The focus of the subject is in practical application of the gained knowledge. The students will be guided thru all steps of a real world problem: problem formulation, data collection, model design, running the simulation and presentation of the results to potential costumers. The students should be aware of right application areas for traffic simulation, be aware of the models used in the simulation software, but also its limitations. In general they should be ready for a job in any transportation planning or consultant company.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

What will a student gain?? Learn basic principles from the field of traffic simulation? Ability to select the right tool for traffic engineering tasks? Theoretical knowledge of the tool AIMSUN? Practical ability to perform traffic simulation? Presenting results to an audience
