Course of selected methods applied in environmental analyses. Course is focussed to a solid, slurry or gaseous matrixes, including introduction to sampling techniques and preconcentration techniques.

Students should have a good knowledge of analytical chemistry at the undergraduate level.

1.Characterization of solid waste categories, production and composition
2.Analysis reliability, error sources, verification types, range of analyses
3.Manipulation and processing of solid waste samples
4.Analysis of solid municipal waste
5.Chemical waste evaluation, sampling methods and sample treatment specific for hazardous wastes
6.Quick analytical methods - screening
7.Soils - quality parameter, norms and legislation
8.Field analysis
9.Headspace analysis
10.Colorimetric tubes - chemisorptions
11.Analysis in stationary laboratories
12.Volatile Organic Compounds - alifatic, aromatic, halogenated and other volatiles
13.Problematic organic substances (PCBs, pesticides, herbicides)

In this course students will gain a good knowledge of the methods of analysis of wastes including their limits. Necessary attention is also paid to the waste sampling methods. Students will also gain competence for a correct choice of the analytical method and evaluation of the results of analysis.
