Department of Physical Electronics
Synopsis:

The lecture addresses the theory, analysis and implementation of linear analog and digital control systems and sensors for several physical quantities. The part of the lecture is devoted to computer modeling and simulation using MATLAB and practical measurements on a continuous system with analog control (servomechanism with electrical motor) or continuous system with discrete control (temperature control using thermoelectric cooler module) performed by the students.

Requirements:

12ZEL12 or equivalent

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Basic concepts in control theory (control theory, cybernetics, automation, control system, transfer function, Laplace transform, poles, zeroes)

2. Basic system classification (linear/non-linear, stationary/non-stationary, continuous/discrete)

3. Basic system properties (static and dynamic characteristics)

4. System identification (basic models, transport delay, Strejc method, statistic methods of identification)

5. Basic types of regulators (P, I, D, PI, PD, PID)

6. Control quality evaluation (quality criteria, resonant peak, control deviation)

7. Control systems stability (stability criteria, Nyquist criterium)

8. Regulator design (analytical, experimental methods, Ziegler-Nichols method)

9. Discrete control (sampling, quantization, Z-transform, stability, control algorithm, discrete regulator)

10. Sensors (classification, basic concepts, temperature and optical sensors)

11. Practical measurements with control system

Syllabus of tutorials:

Measuring system function of the system with an engine, especially time constants

Study Objective:

Knowledge: Basic control theory concepts. Understanding of control systems in terms of design, analysis and implementation.
