Synopsis:

Introduction to Thermodynamics, Statistical physics, Solid state physics fundamentals, Plasma physics fundamentals.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1.Thermodynamics: basic principles, I. law of thermodynamics, reversible changes of ideal gas.

2.II. a III. law of thermodynamics, free energy, enthalpy, chemical and thermodynamic potential, conditions of thermodynamic balance.

3.Statistical physics: Distribution function, Gibbs' canonical distribution.

4.Maxwell and Boltzmann distribution function, Boltzmann equation.

5.Solid state physics fundamentals: crystal structure of solids. Differences between amorphous and crystal media.

6.Crystal systems. Ion, metal, covalent and Van der Waals binding.

7.Thermal properties of solids, specific heat, thermal stretching, thermal conductivity, phonons.

8.Theory of free electrons in metals, superconductivity.

9.Band theory of solids, Kronig-Penney model, effective mass, metals, insulators and semiconductors, intrinsic and příměsové semiconductors, p-n transfer.

10.Magnetic properties, diamagnetic, paramagnetic a ferromagnetic látky.

11.Plasma: basic plasma characteristics, plasma frequency, Debye length, fully and partially ionised plasma.

12.Particle collisions, collision cross-sections, collision frequency, mean free path, ionisation, excitation, recombination.

13.Fluid description, continuity equation, law zákon zachování momentum and energy, diffusion and ambipolar diffusion.

14.Výbojové plazma, podmínky vzniku samostatného výboje, basic characteristics of doutnavého výboje, katodová oblast, kladný sloupec, základní charakteristiky obloukového výboje, overview of diagnostics methods, plasma technology.
