Code Completion Credits Range
15SMJ2 ZK 2 2+0

In order to register for the course 15SMJ2, the student must have successfully completed the course 15SMJ1 in a previous semester.

Garant předmětu:
Lecturer:
Tutor:
Supervisor:
Department of Nuclear Chemistry
Synopsis:

The lecture is based and envolves Separation Methods in Radiochemistry I. Additional aspects of extraction separation methods such as classification and description of the ion-pair formation extraction systéme, extraction with mixtures of agents, and accesories and devices used in solvent extraction. Separations with ion-exchange resins including accesories and high performance liquid chromatography are discussed in more details. Finally, the lecture includes membrane separation processes, thermochromatography, distillation and electrochemical methods.

Requirements:

1. Full chemistry courses at bachelor level (inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry)

2. Basic course in nuclear chemistry

3. Basic course of separation methods

Syllabus of lectures:

1.The classification of extraction systems, examples. The characterization of extraction systems based on ion-pairs formation, extraction by simple ion-pairs.

2.Extraction by neutral organophosphorous agents.

3.Extraction by oxygenated solvents.

4.Extraction by amines.

5.Extraction by mixtures of extraction agents, synergistic and antergistic effect.

6.Apparatus in solvent extraction.

7.Separation by ion exchangers.

8.Techniques, elution agents, apparatus.

9.High performance liquid chromatography, characterization, types, main applications.

10.The characterization of separation techniques using membranes.

11.Distillation methods, termochromatography.

12.Electrochemical and electromigration methods.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

Students will get knowledge of principles and function of the less common in radiochemistry used separation methods and deeper knowledge of the selected methods (extraction and chromatographic methods). Their competencies to chaose proper separation method and procedure according to chemical and technical conditions will be extended.
