Objectives and applications of radiation spectrometry; properties and parameters of spectrometric systems (alpha radiation, beta radiation, gamma and X radiation); applications of computers in analysis of spectra; optimisation of calibration procedures; latest nuclear data and other required constants; detailed characteristics and parameters of spectrometric apparatus with semiconductor and scintillation detectors.

1.Spectrometry of ionizing radiation -general.
2.Sources of the radiation, interaction with matter.
3.Decay schemes, interpretation.
4.Spectrometric systems for alpha, beta gamma and X rays.
5.Theory of the interaction with matter, mechanism of scintillations.
6.Signal from semiconductor detectors.
7.Using of the scintillation and semiconductor spectrometers.
8.Parameters and characterization of spectrometric systems.
9.Semiconductor detectors, types, parameters, selection of the detector.
10.Energy and efficiency calibration.
11.Modeling and computation of detector parameters, codes LABSOS, ISOCS.
12.Peaks detection in the spectra, first and second derivation, criterion of real peak existence.
13.Primary standards of the energy.
14.Alpha spectrometry, barrier detectors, PIP detectors, gridded ionization chamber.

Abilities:
Using computational techniques for analyzing spectra, optimization of calibration methodologies, a meaningful analysis of spectra and identification of peaks in the spectra.
