Synopsis:

Assessment of the radiation burden during internal contamination by radioactive materials, dosimetric quantities, compartment models of the kinetics of radioactive materials, ways of taking into account age dependence in dosimetric models, limitation of validity of used models and procedures, assessment of the radiation burden from radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine - basic concepts, general procedure for calculating the absorbed dose from radiopharmaceuticals, finding data about the biological behaviour of radiopharmaceuticals, tables of absorbed doses and limitation of their validity, radiation burden for children, burden from contaminants in radiopharmaceuticals, development of methods for assessment of the radiation burden from internal sources, methods of measurement of internal contamination, detection in-vivo, excreta monitoring, monitoring of workplaces.

Requirements:

Passing through the subjects Nuclear and radiation physics (16JRF12) and Principles of dosimetry (16ZDOZ12).

2. Dosimetric model of gastrointestinal tract

3. Dosimetric model of respiratory tract

4. Further compartment models for assessment of radiation burden from internal sources

5. Age dependence in dosimetric models of internal contamination

6. Radiation protection importance and limits of validity of methods used for determination of doses from internal contamination

7. General principles of dose determination from radiofarmaceuticals

8. Mathematic model for dose determination from radiofarmaceuticals

9. Determination of data about biological behaviour of radiofarmaceuticals in experimental animals and human body

10. Examples of determination of absorbed dose from radiofarmaceuticals

11. Radiation protection importance and limits of validity of methods used for determination of doses from radiofarmaceuticals

12. Historic development of methods for determination of radiation burden from internal sources

13. Direct methods of measurement of internal radiation sources, whole-body counters

14. Indirect methods of measurement of internal radiation sources

Dosimetric issues in determining internal contamination by radionuclides as well as issue of internal radiation sources in nuclear medicine.

Evaluation of use of open sources. The advantages/disadvantages/risks in different applications and use in practical applications.
