Biomechanics. Basic principles of living tissue. Replacements of tissue and organ. Internal deformations and forces (pseudoelasticity, strain energy function, harmonic excitation). Viscoelastic models. Experimental biomechanics. Mechanical response of tendons and ligaments (structure, strength, cyclic behaviour, aging). Viscoelastic properties of articular cartilage (porous medium, creep, permeability, biotribology). Synovial fluid. Lubrication of diarthrodial joints. Biomechanics of menisci and intervertebral discs (geometry, ultrastructure, creep, pathological states). Biomechanics of bite (masseter muscles and forces). Mechanical response of spine (axial system, vertebral deformability and loading capacity). Mechanics of active and pasive myocard (dynamical response, stability, aterosclerosis). Deformations of erytrocytes and granulocytes. Inteligent systems.
