Synopsis:

Practical exercises on the ATC simulator with the following focus - getting familiar with the simulation environment, acquiring basic habits, aircraft identification procedures, vectoring, level changes, ATC clearance, use of RNAV points. Practical exercises focused on the basis of vectoring, timely application of vertical spacing, EST and REV message transmission. Exercises in the APPROACH airspace, arrivals, departures and conflict solutions.

Requirements:

To complete the course, active participation in exercises, increasing your knowledge, attendance, two written tests of theoretical knowledge and a final test of practical skills are required.

Syllabus of lectures:

First group of exercises:

1)Initial theory + demo-exercise RLP100- students receive an initial briefing in the form of a lecture where the rules are set, procedures are explained and a practical demonstration of the output is given.

2)SQUARE exercise- Students learn how to work with the Eurocontrol ESCAPE Light simulator, learn the basics of surveillance and learn vectoring as instructed.

3)Exercise MAZE - Students must keep the aircraft within a specified corridor using vectoring. Added to this is completing paper flight strips including sorting on the progression board, identifying targets, verifying levels according to Mode C, planning for level changes to ensure vertical separation and verbal coordination with ATS units.

The second group:

Exercise RLP101 - Departing Traffic. The exercise is set in a fictional APP environment and contains only departing traffic from the airport (LKAA). The student learns the departure route system, exit points, standard coordination procedures, and applies previous learned knowledge.Exercise RLP102 - Departing Traffic + Traffic Overflying Area of Responsibility. Basically the same exercise as RLP101, but adds aircraft with a change of flight rules, flights over the area, and flights to/from below or near the TMA that may affect departure traffic.

Exercise RLP201 - Inbound Traffic - Procedures for inbound traffic, standard coordination procedures, learning vectoring for approach, and early approach crossovers for trajectory optimization. Exercise RLP202 - Inbound traffic + traffic crossing the area of responsibility - Identify critical points where departure/arrival traffic is likely to occur. Basically the same exercise as RLP101, but adds aircraft with a change i of flight rules, flights over the area, and flights to/from below or near the TMA that may affect departure traffic.

Exercise RLP201 - Inbound Traffic - Procedures for inbound traffic, standard coordination procedures, learning vectoring for approach, and early approach crossovers for trajectory optimization.

Exercise RLP202 - Inbound traffic + traffic crossing the area of responsibility - Identify critical points where departure/arrival tracks and flights to/from airports under TMA converge. Students will also learn Czech phraseology, VFR flights in Class C airspace, and tools for operational workload reduction.

Third group:

Exercise RLP301 - Complex Exercise - Mixed traffic with real-life situations. Application of all previous experience in departing, arriving and overflying aircraft operations. Students will begin to work with stripless, electronic coordination, practice visual approach procedures and basic forward speed control.

Exercise RLP302 - Review exercises with increasing workload. Application of theoretical and practical knowledge is required.

Exercise RLP303 - Non-standard operating conditions. During the exercise students will encounter situations that will put them under pressure. Paper flight strips are again used in the exercise. The aim of the exercise is not to manage the operation flawlessly, but to keep an overview at all times and try to minimise the effects of pressure on the operation.

Exercise RLP304 - Maximum operational load. Students will test their limits with a stripless system with a large number of aircraft. An aid in the form of a downlink system is added.

Exercise RLP305 - A complex exercise focusing on night operations and associated limitations. Students learn to adapt their habits to operational limitations.

Exercise RLP306 - A complex traffic exercise with changing during the exercise. Students experience passing traffic information and must adapt to someone else's driving style.

Exercise RLP307 - Final Exercise - Students must demonstrate that they have understood the theoretical and practical parts of the lessons, can apply them adequately, and can adapt to operational situations.

Study Objective:

The aim of the course is to provide the students with a unique experience of training on the simulator of air traffic control and thus provide them with detailed knowledge of ATC processes, ATC communication and phraseology as well improve their understanding of overall ATM system, and its infrastructure.
