Synopsis:

Building Materials, Structures and Technology is a course that deals with new design principles, construction materials and technical equipment for buildings of contemporary construction and architecture. This course focuses on the development and trends of new design principles from the main system to the detail.

Requirements:

Minimum participation in workshops 60%.

Preparation of a seminar paper and its presentation.

Oral examination in the form of a debate during the presentation of the seminar paper.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Building construction:

- Analysis of building structures

- design and optimization of the building as a whole

- design and optimization of the construction detail.

- Life cycle of the building

- design of a highly efficient building

- environmentally friendly construction methods.

- the relationship between construction and architecture

2. Materials:

- Analysis of building materials.

- Historical and modern materials

- homogeneous, heterogeneous and composite materials

- life cycle of building materials

- rheology and ageing of materials.

3. Technology:

- Analysis of historical and existing technologies (technical equipment of buildings)

- search for new technologies (technical building equipment) with respect to a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of building

- technical and technological equipment of buildings and sites.

Study Objective:

To deepen the student's knowledge of building structures, materials and technologies and to prepare him/her for the preparation of his/her dissertation on the basis of the selected topic.
