Department of Architectural Engineering
Synopsis:

The course focuses on selected topics in the field of room and building acoustics, especially on the description of the acoustic field, absorbing materials and diffusers, and the transmission of airborne and impact sound through building elements and in buildings.

Requirements:

-

Syllabus of lectures:

Room acoustics

- the acoustic field within enclosed spaces of various sizes (including coupled spaces) for listening to speech or music or where noise reduction is required

- equations, statistical relationships, computational finite or boundary element methods and raytracing

- measurement methods based on impulse responses and IACC

- absorbing materials and diffusers

Building acoustics

- theory of airborne and impact sound transmission through building elements and in buildings

- airborne sound insulation of single and multilayer building elements, influence of structural properties on sound transmission

- impact sound insulation of floating floors and floor coverings, their contribution to the reduction of impact sound transmission through ceiling structures

- flanking sound transmission between rooms in buildings and experimental methods in building acoustics
