Synopsis:

The aim of this lecture is to summarize present knowledge of chemistry in the universe. The lecture should be focused mainly on chemistry of our solar system, interstellar clouds, origin of life, interstellar compounds detection techniques and history of astrochemistry.

Requirements:

Students prepare presentation on a specified topic. Students work is verified with exam.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.History of astrochemistry and astronomy. This lecture is focused on the beginning of universe exploration and observation from the prehistoric to the modern period.

2.The aim of the lecture „Our home in the universe“ is to give information about our solar system, Milky Way galaxy from the astrochemical point of view.

3.The lecture Origin of elements is focused on the Big Bang Theory and nucleosynthesis during the life and death of stars.

4.Next lecture will be devoted to the interstellar chemistry.

5.The lecture „Chemistry of terrestrial planets“ is focused on the geochemistry / atmospheric chemistry of Venus, Mars, Earth and Moon.

6.Next lecture is focused on the origin of life in the Universe.

7.The lecture „Chemistry of Jovian planets“ is focused on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and their satellites (mainly Titan, Triton, Callisto, Io and Europa).

8.Next lecture is devoted to the detection of compounds in the universe.

9.For the last lecture students should prepare their own presentations for exam.

10.Excursion in laboratories, invited lecture.

11.Optional: Visit of an observatory (Carslbad or Valasske Mezirici observatory in Moravia).

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

Knowledge: Student will acquire integral summary on history of astrochemistry and the present state of knowledge about chemical processes running in the universe. The lecture should be focused mainly on chemistry of our solar system, interstellar clouds and its possible relation to origin of life.

Competence: Student will be able to select convenient spectroscopic technique for interstellar compounds detection and to interpret experimental result gained.
