Synopsis:

The course links to Introduction to computer hardware. The education is divided into three parts. Students design logical circuits and implement them in XILINX programmable logic in the first third of the term. General computer architecture is explained afterwards (Von Neumann, processor, instruction set, RISC, CISC, memory, arithmetic). The last theme is PC architecture (Intel processors, PCI? AGP,USB busses, parallel and serial ports, IDE, floppy disks, hard drives,...).
