Synopsis:

In this practical exercises, the students will familiarize themselves with the principles of experimental radiation chemistry and photochemistry and obtain knowledge in the practical applications of radiation and photochemical methods for characterization of irradiation sources (chemical dosimetry for determination of dose rate in ionizing radiation sources, chemical actinometry for evaluation of photon flow in non-ionizing radiation sources), syntheses of various inorganic materials (metals, simple oxides, indirect synthesis of multicomponent oxides) and other applications of photochemical reactions.

Requirements:

1.Basic course of nuclear chemistry.

2.Basic course of ionising radiation detection.

3.Fundamentals of radiation chemistry

1.Fricke and Fricke-Hart dosimeter.

2.Ceric dosimeter.

3.Ferrioxalate actinometer.

4.Iodide-iodate actinometer.

5.Preparation of colloidal metals.

6.Preparation of simple oxides.

7.Synthesis of multicomponent oxides.

8.Photoresist.

Study Objective:

Students will achieve practical knowledge of samples preparation and fundamentals of radiation methods, and preparation of dosimeters and actinometers.

They will become proficient in the usage of basic irradiation sources and evaluation of results.

Radionuclide irradiator Gammacell 220, UV Gas discharge lamps, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, chemical laboratory and basic laboratory equipment.
