Synopsis:

Health Psychology builds on the knowledge of general and social psychology. The course focuses in detail on the findings that relate to health psychology, clinical psychology, the application of psychological knowledge in the health and psychological care for the sick. Stress affects the management of stress and coping with stress in the helping professions, psychosocial problems, posttraumatic stress response and psychological first aid after disasters and accidents. The aim is to inform the teaching of the essential psychological problems and rescued saving and prepare students for specific behaviors and reactions of individuals and groups in life-threatening situations.

Requirements:

Partial Requirements: Active participation in seminars.

Requirements for Credit: Development work on the sub-topic that the student chooses itself and through Power Point presentation will be presented at seminars and to the extent at least. 10 minutes.

Syllabus of lectures:

Health Psychology (definition).

Health and illness (illness as an arduous life situation).

Psychological problems of disease and patient.

Psychological problems of injured and rescued.

Pain, fear and anxiety.

Interaction with the patient health care (communication in health care).

Traumatic events (mass disasters).

Panic disorder.

Post-traumatic stress reactions and PTSD.

Crisis and crisis intervention.

Psychosocial support system for crisis intervention.

Suicide as a result of traumatic experiences.

The risk of dependence on alcohol and drugs.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Differences between clinical, health psychology and health psychology.

Presentation of the so-called inventory of major life events (Life Events).

Differences in personality and experience of patients and victims of disasters.

Needs and reactions of victims (group discussion about the most problems).

Practice empathic behavior toward a person with pain, fear and anxiety.

Components of verbal and nonverbal communication, the role of mediator.

The analysis of practical examples, discussing personal experiences.

Driving license. Talk about the most common triggers of panic attacks.

Talk about stress factors, psychotherapeutic and pharmacological techniques.

Personal experience with compensatory strategies, demonstrations.

Describe the psychological and social needs of victims, helping ethics.

Balance, impulsive, histrionic suicide.

Analysis of the practice increased the risk of alcohol and drugs.

Study Objective:

The goal is to further acquaint students with knowledge related to health psychology, clinical psychology, the application of psychological knowledge in the health and psychological care for the sick.

In another section, students learn the stress management, which affects the stress and coping with stress in helping professions. There is also discussed issues of psychosocial care, post-traumatic stress reactions and psychological first aid after disasters and accidents.

The aim is primarily to inform students about the essential psychological problems rescued and saving and to prepare students for specific behaviors and reactions of individuals and groups in life-threatening situations.
