Synopsis:

The subject is aimed at application of principles and methods in critical care,

anaesthesiology, resuscitation both in experimental research and clinical

practice. It involves animal experiments (legal aspects, methods, requirements),

good clinical practice, good laboratory practice, etc. Physical and physically

chemical principles of thermodynamics of gas mixture, compressible fluids, real

and ideal fluid, basic components of pneumatic systems, modelling,

electrochemical measurement of physiologic parameters and other topics are used

in design and realisation of research experiments.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1. Research in critical care, anaesthesiology and resuscitation. Methods and

procedures.

2. Animal experiments - requirements, legal aspects, ethical aspects. Examples

of conducted experiments.

3. Clinical trials - requirements, legal aspects, ethical aspects. Examples and

analysis of selected clinical trials.

4.Good Clinical Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, GMP, GDP. Regulatory

authorities in the Czech Republic and leading institutions in the world.

5. Preparation of experiments - application of thermodynamic principles during

experiments and measurements.

6. Preparation of experiments - analysis and design of systems utilising

compressible fluids.

7. Preparation of experiments - flow of real fluids and flow in the human body.

8. Preparation of experiments - basic components of pneumatic systems (jet

generators, constant flow sources, pressure sources, gas mixing, etc.).

9. Preparation of experiments - modelling, analysis and simulations of

biological systems using electrical analogies.

10. Analysis of blood gases, interference, calculations of standard conditions.

11. Electrochemical measuring methods.

12. Indirect measurement of biological and physical variables.
