This course focuses on the transmission of audiovisual information, with an emphasis on current digital platforms. Students will become familiar with the principles of data stream creation, digitization, source and especially channel coding, including multi-stage error correction methods. The course also covers program and transport multiplexing, IP-based streaming, transmission quality assessment, and measurement techniques. Emphasis is placed on principles used in current standards in relation to transmission channel parameters, radio network coordination, frequency planning, and system coexistence. Students will gain competencies in the design, operation, and optimization of distribution systems, including current trends and accompanying services in digital television, radio, and other forms of audiovisual content transmission.

1. Overview of the development of television transmission systems. Basic requirements and principles of television image transmission.
2. Overview of the development of radio transmission systems. Stereophonic radio broadcasting.
3. Digitization of audio and video signals. Overview of source processing methods for audio and video signals.
4. Protocols and standards for audiovisual information transmission.
5. Program and transport multiplexing. Dynamic multiplex reconfiguration.
6. Video streaming. Transmission of audiovisual information over IP networks.
7. Audio and video signal processing. Quality assessment in audiovisual transmission.
8. Technical equipment for radio systems, basic signal transmission principles, characteristics, and impact of the transmission channel.
9. Error correction in digital TV and radio transmission, convolutional and block codes, multi-stage protection.
10. Modulation techniques in digital TV and radio transmission systems. Single Frequency Networks (SFN).
11. Standards for digital television and digital radio broadcasting.
12. Radio and television broadcast transmitter networks vs. mobile communication networks, problems of audiovisual content transmission.
13. Radio system coordination, frequency planning, coexistence of multimedia systems.
