Supervisor:
Department of Engineering Equipment of Buildings
Synopsis:

The course is focused to 3 topics covering practical applications of thermodynamics theory. The first topic aims to moist air processes common in air handling units. In the second topic students are leaded through water vapour thermodynamics and basic examples of gas cycles. The last topic aims to heat transfer within standard heat exchangers.

Requirements:

none

Syllabus of lectures:

1Introduction, 1st and 2nd Law of Termodynamics.

2Introduction to moist air, moist air properties. Basic isobaric processes of moist air, Molliers chart.

3Water vapour thermodynamics, terminology and characterization. Water vapour diagrams, fundamental ideal reversible processes in vapour, selected irreversible processes.

4Gas power cycles. Rankine cycle. Heat pump's vapor-compression refrigeration cycle

5Heat exchangers, introduction to heat transfer, Conduction, convection and transmission.

6Basic criteria of correlation in convection. Chosen equation using correlation criteria useful for convection description

Syllabus of tutorials:

1Basic isobaric processes of moist air in ventilation systems, Molliers chart.

2Water vapour thermodynamics, fundamental ideal reversible processes in vapour, selected irreversible processes.

3Gas power cycles. Rankine cycle. Heat pump's vapor-compression refrigeration cycle

4Heat exchangers

5Heat exchangers

Study Objective:

Practical applications of previously learned theory in fields of moist air, gas cycles and heat transfer.
