Synopsis:

The course covers optics theory and its application in engineering, biology, and medicine. It describes properties of optical radiation from a view of photon, electromagnetic and geometric theory. It is focused also on sources and detectors of optical radiation, and basic properties of optical instruments. Special part of the course is dedicated to modern optical instruments and methods, which are used in biology and medicine. Present trends of development of optical methods in biomedicine are also discussed.

2.Sources of optical radiation

3.Detectors of optical radiation

4.Fundamentals of geometric optics

5.Fundamentals of wave optics

6.Properties and parameters of optical instruments

7.Optical instruments and methods for biomedicine

8.Human eye and optical instruments in opthalmology and optometry

Excercises follow the content of the lecture.
