Synopsis:

The practical economic policy as a compulsory/ an optional subject is meant for second year students of Civil Engineering, bachelor studies. Students with at least elementary knowledge of economy within the course of the basic economic theory which was included in the 1. year of structured studies will have some advantage when studying this subject.

Within the frame of this subject students will first learn about the terrm economic policy. On the one hand it means a whole complex of tasks, tools and measures of the state with which the state influences the economy, e.g. practical acitivitie. On the other hand it covers the economic policy as a theoretical discipline with its own subject of research, the term apparatus, basic categories and laws. Studying and understanding of economic policy tools must be accompanied by proper knowledge of basic theoretical framework - therefore students study tasks and tools of the economic policy, its subjects and theoretical sources as well. Within the macroeconomic economic policy (with its task of reaching given parametres of macroeconmic aggregates) we describe in fine detail the fiscal, monetary, foreign-trade, income and exchange rate economic policy.

A lot of attention is paid not only to mastering of various theoretical approaches but to explanation of the transmission mechanism of individual policies as well. Besides general principles we always characterise practical impacts of measures on our economy and on European Union?s economy as well..

Within the microeconomic economic policy we analyse in detail the stuctural and social economic policy and the policy of economic competition protection, too. A lot of attention is paid to the development of economic policy in some states from the beginning of the 20th century - particularly in the UK, the USA, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden and in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) and within the European Union.

Study Objective:

Students are led to try and apply their knowledge of tasks and links between macroeconomic and microeconomic economic policies. Oour teaching is frequently updated by figures describing situation in the Czech economy and some analysis of economic/political events in the European Union and the world economy. We regularly discuss connections and possible impacts of various measures of the economic policy in the Czech Republic and in the European Union, students individually solve real-life tasks and count macroeconomic aggregates using economic models.
