Synopsis:

Degradation is unintentionally damage of material structure; it runs spontaneously and begins in the moment of material fabrication and installation. Degradation influences material durability and the whole construction length of life. Due to degradation process no small restoration and reconstruction charges appear. This process cannot be absolutely stopped but only retarded or considerably reduced.

Basic terminology, types of degradation, kinetics of reactions.

Concrete degradation.

Metals corrosion.

Building-stone and aggregates degradation.

Lime and gypsum degradation.

Degradation of glass, ceramics and organic materials.

Biodegradation.

Degradation protection.

Study Objective:

The goal is knowledge improvement and development, make students acquainted with modern principles of degradation protection, techniques, and preservative agents.
