Czech for Foreign Students - Advanced Examination

Synopsis:

The prerequisite of the course is very good knowledge of the Czech language, i.e., communicative competences at least at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. It is focused partly on revision of standard language structures, but mainly on practising more complex grammatical structures typical of the style of science. Students are taught the basics of functional style of engineering and professional communication, both in spoken and written form. The topics include University Studies and Student Life. Written practice includes communication with teachers and faculty administrators.

Competence at the B1 CEFR level

Knowledge based on the required and recommended sources, i.e., competence in orthography, morphology, syntax, style; appropriate oral skills

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.

Study Objective:

Knowledge:

Morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, particularly orthography of foreign words, more difficult declension of nouns, passive voice.

Skills:

To use the acquired knowledge in everyday communication and in more professional contexts, particularly in formal writing of definitions; reach a good level of phonetics and language culture.
