Soil and the environment. Soil genesis, pedogenetic factors. Soil structure and texture. Physical and physiochemical soil properties. Physical, chemical and biological processes in soils. Soil classification. Soil survey and mapping. Soils of the world. Clay minerals, soil chemistry. Hydrostatic and hydrodynamic behaviour of soil water, capillarity. Determination of soil moisture. Flow of water in variably saturated porous media.

3.Clay minerals, soil chemistry- C, N,P,K, ion exchange capacity, soil contamination
4.Soil texture - grain analysis; soil structure - aggregation
5.Physical soil properties - moisture, temperature, water & air
6.Water in soil - capillarity, retention curve
7.Water in soil - moisture measurements
8.Hydraulic characteristics - hydraulic conductivity, vodivost
9.Hydrodynamics - saturated and unsaturated flow
10.Elementary processes: infiltration, evaporation, plant transpiration, moisture capacity, wilting point
11.Soil types - basic classification of soil profiles
